Hello There! (Read that in an Obi Wan voice)
I finally got around to rebuilding my portfolio site and setting up this blog.
I don't want to treat this website as another technical tutorial website, I already have a Medium and Hashnode blog for that. I want to use this space to share my personality and programming experiments in a low pressure environment.
The Soundtrack
This year I'm taking a break from DJing on the radio. Instead, I'll be making occasional blog posts documenting my music taste and dropping set lists when the mood strikes.
To get in the flow state this past week, I listened to a lot of House Music, Jungle, Garage and British music. I think House Music gets me in a flow state because of my dad. He used to play it in the car on the way to school and while he was working. The man lived in Reading, England for a while, so my earliest memories are from that time. I don't know if he liked House and Garage before living in the UK, as I wasn't born yet.
Enough lore about me, let's talk about music.
DJ Sets
timeless breaks — old & new by yunji is an absolute banger of jungle/dub/breaks mix that somehow manages to be energizing without being distracting (mostly).
morning routine house mix was what the YouTube algorithm gave me after it noticed that I was vibing to yunji again.
I once made a House Music playlist on YouTube and it absolutely bombed. I took it down because my audience there seems to prefer jazz. But when I was at Bff.fm, I made a Black British Music mix and it still holds up.
REPEAT: BLACK BRITISH MUSIC on Grand Line Radio
One reason I think radio will outlive us all? It's like Twitch but with music. There's something about hearing a human voice between tracks, having that occasional chat is almost parasocial. Although this is my own radio show, so I don't know if I can get parasocial with my alter ego.
Fun fact about internet radio, it's really hard to get feedback and calls from listeners. Maybe one day I'll build a platform that closes that loop. For now, reconnecting with myself from February 2025 was nice. I really enjoyed Reclaim! by Bakar.
What This Space Will Be
This blog is going to be more... me. Life updates, music I'm obsessed with, random projects, audio engineering experiments, maybe some food and travel pics. The vibe is casual.
I'm thinking:
- Music discoveries and recommendations
- Behind-the-scenes of building things
- Audio deep dives (when the mood strikes)
- Life halfway around the world
- Whatever else feels right
Currently
- Building: This portfolio, and Reze—a macOS job search assistant
- Listening to: See above
- Reading: Catching up on manga and the Apple Speech Analyzer
Let's Connect
If you're into any of this - music, code, building things, or just want to say hi - hit me up on GitHub, LinkedIn, or check out my more technical articles on Medium and Hashnode.
Thanks for stopping by! More posts coming soon (I promise).
In case I don't see you again, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
P.S. - If you have any albums, DJ sets or radio shows I should check out, send them my way. Always looking for new music.
